Jail Ministry
About ten years ago a call to provide Bible study opportunities at the Allegany County Jail was answered. Six men volunteered to spearhead this effort, each one offering a unique study topic to residents at the jail. Ten years later Bible studies are still being offered every Wednesday night from 7:00-8:30 PM.
Currently, four men and six women are certified to enter the Allegany County Jail. One woman attends to the women’s pod and one man leads a Bible study in two of the three men’s pods each week. Jail Ministry leaders are also asked to conduct a church service for two consecutive Sundays four times a year; leaders usually serve Holy Communion during one the consecutive Sunday services.
One of the goals of the Jail Ministry is to recruit more men for leadership, hoping to provide weekly Bible studies for all three of the men’s pods. Please contact Max Shay if you are interested in finding out how you can get involved with the Jail Ministry.
