September 2010

Dear friends,

It has been a great summer, hasn’t it? We have had times to relax and enjoy the fellowship of family and friends. We have met together as one worshiping congregation to lift our praises to the God of this universe. Even the earlier start has afforded us time to appreciate the amazing beauty of God’s creation the rest of the day.

The weather has been splendid too. Yes, it has been hot and humid on several occasions. I must say I have been grateful for our air-conditioned sanctuary! Hasn’t it been great to experience the bright sunshine as well? We will carry warm (!) memories of this summer into the fall and winter seasons ahead.

I have been told that the hot weather and warm sunshine, coupled with just the right amount of rain has produced a real bumper crop of fruit and vegetables this year. Like many of you, I thoroughly enjoy the corn, strawberries, blueberries and peaches. In fact, while I cannot point to chapter and verse, I am thoroughly convinced that there will be strawberries in heaven—and maybe the rest too!!!

As I reflect on the summer, I realize that there is a parallel in the spiritual realm. God often uses the natural to illustrate the spiritual. Combine the warmth of God’s love, the sunshine of His presence and the showers of blessing He continues to pour out...and you get a formula for growth. We grow in our faith when we personally experience all God has done for us...and continues to do for us. I am so glad that

God’s love grows here

As you ponder this rapidly closing summer season, how have you grown in faith? What helps you grow? How might you share with another the “means of grace” (a John Wesley phrase) that produce growth in your life? And...how will we plan to grow in our faith in the months ahead? What will this season of the soul bring for you? Remember again with me how God’s love grows in this congregation…

Through worship, Bible study and service

Plan to commit yourself afresh to the worshiping community of God’s people. Find an opportunity for Bible study with others. There will be at least five settings this fall...two on Sunday morning, two during the week and a new one for morning, two during the week and a new one for younger adults which will probably meet monthly. Seek an avenue for service. If you don’t know where to start, ask someone on our Outreach Team! People who experience God’s love most richly are those who commit themselves to worship, Bible study and service.

Planning to grow with you,

Pastor Jerry
